Just a reminder that the due date for our last book order is this Saturday. I want to ensure the books will arrive before the end of the year. You are able to order any book from Scholastic, you are not limited to paper book orders. In fact if you like, you can order by guided reading levels or titles online at https://clubs2.scholastic.com. Just look for the title, or you can search for books by level on line. Just ask your child for their reading level and then look for GRL either on the paper order, or online.

Please send in $10.00 ASAP to class for the end of the year party on June 3, here at school at 10:00-1:30. Also parents are still needed to run the party, contact Jen Christensen.

Auction winners for Lunch with the First Grade Teachers will be on Friday, May 22.

We will be having a Birthday Celebration for all bdays, especially recognizing those who have bdays in the summer. We will meet at the park at Rio at 10:50 on Friday, May 29 and everyone is welcome, even younger siblings. The Granthoms will be bringing pizza and if anyone would like to bring, fruit, veggies, snacks, treats, drinks, plate, napkins, drinks... just reply all and that way we can keep track of the food we will be having.

Dismissal on Friday, June 5 is 10:50.

First Grade Homework

It has been shown that support from home can boost learning. Therefore, I highly recommend that each day you work with your child reviewing the skills in reading, writing and math previously taught in class.

There are many fun and interactive ways to help your child. You may use the resources listed on this site or the ones on our school's website for ideas.

Having taught first grade for twenty years, I have found that daily reading, writing and math support at home is very important for your child's success in first grade.

Star Of The Week

The focus of Star of the Week is the rich history of your family's ancestry and their role in our community. Star of the Week covers mapping, understanding that people, places and things change over time, and understanding we all have roles in the community.

Monday – Send in a poster about the Star and his/her family.

Tuesday - Send in a simple family tree.

Wednesday - Send in a map showing family origins and any cultural items.

Thursday - 12:45-1:10 Parents come in to talk about their jobs, family history, hobbies and/or interests. This would be a great day for you to share some cultural food with us if you like.
