Newsletter 2/3/2014

After many hours working on my computer, switching from Yahoo to Gmail, I finally feel connected again, however, my email this time will be very brief.

I plan to place another Scholastic Books order with a Feb. 20 due date. I'm not sending home any catalogs this time. If you would like to order any books for your first grader, an older sibling or friend, feel free. Check out the "Find Books By Reading Level" section to order your child's level of books or visit any of the catalogs. The code you will need is H2TNH

First Grade Homework

It has been shown that support from home can boost learning. Therefore, I highly recommend that each day you work with your child reviewing the skills in reading, writing and math previously taught in class.

There are many fun and interactive ways to help your child. You may use the resources listed on this site or the ones on our school's website for ideas.

Having taught first grade for twenty years, I have found that daily reading, writing and math support at home is very important for your child's success in first grade.

Star Of The Week

The focus of Star of the Week is the rich history of your family's ancestry and their role in our community. Star of the Week covers mapping, understanding that people, places and things change over time, and understanding we all have roles in the community.

Monday – Send in a poster about the Star and his/her family.

Tuesday - Send in a simple family tree.

Wednesday - Send in a map showing family origins and any cultural items.

Thursday - 12:45-1:10 Parents come in to talk about their jobs, family history, hobbies and/or interests. This would be a great day for you to share some cultural food with us if you like.
