Week two is behind us and children have been working on their listening skills and building their independence. They are ready to have parents in the classroom.

Language Arts: The past two weeks our focus has been retelling stories thinking about the beginning, middle and end. After reading stories, ask your children to tell you what happened in the story.

Math: Has your child told you about number bonds? If not, ask them. We've been working on ways to make 5 and 6 this week. Next week will work on ways to make 7 and 8. I noticed parents have been working on corresponding homework pages for homework. Other math support can be to use goldfish, stickers, cars to help your child understand different ways to make 5,6,7,8.

Word Wall Words: Each week we will be adding new word wall words to our word wall. The wall is a tool for teaching reading and spelling high frequency words to children. Helping your child learn to read and spell these words will benefit them greatly. We have started with the kindergarten words on our wall word and this week have added the following words: because, come, her, him, little,

Handwriting: We have covered the proper way to write the magic "c" letters, a,c,d,f,g,o,qu,s. Next week we will learn the straight line letters. On my blog I have handwriting worksheets that you can print to support your child if they are having difficulties.

Homework: Thank you for helping your child get their homework folder in their backpack each day. Please have your child return the filled in homework log each Friday.

Library: Our library time is at 8:00 on Friday. If your child is late on Friday, please have them get a tardy slip, then go to the library. Books went home on Friday and may be returned to class anytime during the week.

Help: We are in the computer lab on Mondays at 11:30-12. Would anyone be able to help out, especially at the beginning of the year? Also I'm wondering if I can recruit a parent to help with the garden.

Dates to Remember: Picture Day is Tuesday, September 9.
Back to school night is Thursday, Sept. 18 at 6- 6::25 for primary classes.
