We hit the ground running last week and covered quite a lot of material since Tuesday. First we read about George Washington and the children wrote informational papers about this very special American. Also we focused on adding and subtracting ten and one from two digit numbers. Last we applied our reading skills to find out what the main idea and details were in stories and publications. This skill is challenging, so support from home is welcome. Clearly I have explained the contents of our full week in this paragraph.
The above paragraph is an example of the type of writing your child has been learning. We start out with a topic sentence explaining what the writing will cover. The next three detail sentences start out with a transition word and will state three facts about the topic. The last sentence is a conclusion sentence, restating the main idea.
