We are really becoming a classroom of readers and writers! When you are in the room, check out their work. Thanks for your support at home with reading, writing and math, it really makes a difference.

With regards to math, we had so much going on this week we didn't get as far on math. We will be on problem set 16 on Tuesday. So far the quick tens and ones make the most sense to the children. I will not be expecting them to learn/master the arrow way and all of the other strategies in this module, so don't worry about it. Hopefully the Engage New York module attachments on the email dated Feb. 5 will help you.

Conversations in our class around special Americans and US history have been numerous and exciting. They love when I pull down the map to locate areas of the US that we are reading about in stories. Their knowledge of our country is growing and many children are having conversations at home and are hearing stories from parents and relatives. Olivia asked her cousin if she was learning about special Americans at school and that launched into her family talking about visiting the Ford Museum in DC and going underground to the house across the street. I think you will enjoy chatting with your child and they will enjoy hearing your stories. If you pull out a United States map you may be surprised with the knowledge your child has about Sacagawea, Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges, Abraham Lincoln, the North and the South and why the Pilgrims left England and where they settled.

Thanks so much to the parents who volunteered to run some very awesome centers today. Enjoy another beautiful three day weekend in California!
