We've had a busy week. We continue to work on procedures and expectations in the classroom, hallways and on the playground. We've been busy working on handwriting, reading stories, writing, working on our new math program and getting to know each other.
We have been practicing counting by 2's and 5's. Please practice this oral counting at home. We are using number racks (rekenreks) to count and represent numbers and your child should have a used number rack from last year to keep at home. Look for your child's "Home Connections'" paper in their folder. Please have them work on this at home, supporting them if needed. Home Connections is an opportunity for you to see what your child is learning in class, how well they are grasping the concepts, and it provides practice at home. Please do not send it back to school. (I will address this at Back to School Night.)
We continue to focus on the beginning, middle and end of stories, thinking about the characters, details in a story, and causes and effects. For support with handwriting, see my blog. Children have a bag of books at their level in their desks and are excited about reading. Mystery Person supports your child with writing skills; ask them about this.
Thanks for the tremendous response and support!!! I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, August 30 at 6:00-6:45 for Back to School Night.
