Language Arts: Ask your child to tell you details from the stories they read to you and that you read to them. Being aware of recognizing details will help them remember to add details in their writing. We are working on writing and speaking in complete sentences. Also they are practicing using capital letters and punctuation correctly, as well as spelling word wall words correctly. Now that's a lot for a first grader!
Handwriting: We have completed learning the proper way to form all lower case letters. Help your child practice their handwriting correctly. You can find handwriting worksheets on the blog. We are learning the correct formation of upper case letters and also the sounds of the vowels. Ask your child about the vowel code.
Math: We have been using manipulatives in math to help understand the problems like: 1+4=3+2 and 1+7=7+1. We will continue to work on our math fluency to 10 and learn about adding doubles and doubles plus one.
Science: Our ants have arrived!!! They are busy at work building tunnels. The activity is fun to observe. We also have our class pets, two large hermits crabs! Enjoy taking them home when your child is Star of the Week. Thanks to Marissa's family.
Word Wall Words will follow next week.
